RITA RIVAS

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, on June 19th, 1965

ABOUT HER

Rita Rivas sends "messages" of the human nature and its conflicts through the human figure and its lines and colors. Her work is surrealistic and with an elaborated work of the lines and volumes.

ART STUDIES

She attended to art classes in Caracas (Venezuela) from 1979 till 1989 at the study of the recognized artist Jose Mohamed; in Washington D.C. (USA) from 1989 till 1994 to classes at the Corcoran School of Art and at Georgetown University; and in Guatemala City (Guatemala) during 1999 at Toscana Art Studio. Classes taken searched to complete her artistic "vocabulary" with oil and acrylic techniques and drawing the human figure.

EXHIBITIONS

"Honor Mention" in the category "Invited Artists" during the II Bienal Arte Paiz-El Salvador celebrated on November 2005. She participated during 2004 in Expo-Mujer 2004, Exhibicion Demografica, Exhibicion-Subasta de la ABCD, Colectiva del Liceo Frances, among others. She participated in the II Biennal Paiz El Salvador in 2003, winning a bronce "Glifo" prize for open cathegory. During 2002 and 2003 she participated in several group exhibitions including a Women Artist exhibition in May 2002 at the Casona Galerias in San Salvador and another women exhibition at the Radisson Hotel, San Salvador. She participated in JUANNIO 2001 on June 2001, the prestigious auction and art exhibition which takes place in Guatemala City, Guatemala every year at the Modern Art Museum. Exhibited with other artists for the First Contest for Young Painting on October 2000 at the Spanish Cultural Center of the Spanish Embassy in San Salvador, El Salvador. Participated in the group exhibition "Interactions" at the World Bank (June 1996), also at Moscoso Gallery (May 1996) and at the Corcoran Schooll of Art (March 1992); all these exhibitions in Washington D.C. (USA). On May 1992 realized an Open Studio Exhibition at her studio in Chevy Chase, MD, USA. On July 1983 won the Second Prize at the Contest "200th Anniversary of the Birthday of Simon Bolivar" at Metropolitana University, Caracas, Venezuela.
